Skills2Compete-Maryland is Governor Martin O’Malley’s new workforce development vision aimed at increasing post-secondary success to strengthen the skills of Maryland’s workforce. Skills2Compete-Marlyand is a focused, statewide initiative that will increase the number of Marylander’s who achieve at least two years of education or training past high school, to meet the demands of Maryland’s employers.

Major Efforts

In March 2010 Governor Martin O’Malley announced his Skills2Compete-Maryland initiative at Prince George's Community College. The Governor set a goal for the state to increase the number of residents with middle-skill credentials by 20% by 2012, with a particular focus on residents with low basic skills. The Governor’s announcement coincided with the release of National Skills Coalition's Maryland’s Forgotten Middle-Skill Jobs report.
