State Skills2Compete campaigns make headlines, bringing diverse stakeholders together

In October, Skills2Compete launched five state campaigns, releasing new Forgotten Middle-Skill Jobs reports in California, Connecticut, Michigan, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin, and re-releasing updated reports in Illinois and Washington. These reports find that despite the recession, almost half of all projected job openings between 2006 and 2016 will be middle-skill jobs, and that states must use economic downtime to invest in training time to meet future demand. The state campaigns held press conferences, bringing together a range of stakeholders from their state to discuss the impact of their report’s findings and grabbing the media’s attention along the way.

"As we continue working to diversify Michigan’s economy and creating new jobs, people have to equip themselves with the necessary education and marketable skills. A new study that was out this week shows that 650,000 “middle-skill” jobs are projected for Michigan by the year 2016, about half of all job openings."
