Ohio budget includes investments in workers.
Kasich signs the Fiscal Year 2012-2013 Budget, Includes New Investments for Incumbent Worker Program
Ohio Governor John Kasich signed Ohio’s Biennial Budget into law last week. State investments to support adult learners such as the Ohio College Opportunity Grant Program, which provides tuition assistance, has been maintained. The budget also provides the necessary state match for Adult Basic Literacy Education services. Programs that are directly connected to the needs of employers got the biggest boost. Notably, Ohio’s Co-Op/Internship program has been resurrected with an appropriation of $40 million over the next two years, after being zeroed out in the last budget. The newly signed budget also creates a new incumbent worker program, the Ohio Workforce Job Training program and funds it at $50 million over the next two years. Community Research Partners, which convenes and leads the Ohio Workforce Coalition, gives a complete breakdown here.
