NSC responds to Coburn training report.

February 11, 2011

On February 9, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report examining workforce education and training programs across multiple federal agencies.  This report is being interpreted by some—including Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) who requested the GAO report with Senator Mike Enzi (R-WY) and released his own report titled Help Wanted: How Federal Job Training Programs are Failing Workers —to suggest that the federal government wastes money on an “$18 billion training maze” of duplicative and ineffective workforce development programs. But these arguments are misleading. Read National Skills Coalition response to Senator Coburn's report—Federal Job Training Programs are Meeting Critical Skilled Workforce Needs.
