House passes state-aid bill.

August 10, 2010

Earlier today, the House voted 247-161 to approve the Senate-passed state-aid bill (HR 1586) that will provide $16.1 billion in federal Medicaid assistance to the states (FMAP) and another $10 billion to states to prevent layoffs of teachers and other public employees. The bill is paid for, in part, by accelerating the phase-out of increased Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamps) benefits authorized under the Recovery Act. The bill now goes to the President’s desk for his signature.
